Travel Guide Salobrena – Spain
Salobrena is a charming, typical Spanish village on Costa Tropical (also known asGranadaCoast). Read more about Costa Tropical.
This coastal city is located in southern Spain, 400 kilometers south of the capital itself Madrid. Here you are welcomed by approximately 12,400 inhabitants, a varied climate, beautiful nature and good food culture. In just 45 minutes you can take the car to Granada, and do you want to fly to Salobrena is Malaga the nearest airport, and from there it is only an hour's drive before you arrive. If you are going on holiday here during the winter, it may also be tempting to take the car for an hour to the snow-covered ski resort Sierra Nevada and whizz down the slopes, which have hosted World Cup competitions on several occasions (Stenmark has competed there).
Thanks to its proximity to the ski resort, the city can also feel attractive in winter, and the climate in Salobrena is very mild and pleasant. The summers are then warm and offer very pleasant days, especially considering its location on the coast. Salobrena has a very low humidity, which makes the area considered to rank at the top in terms of the most healthy climate throughout the world. The unique coastal location is one of many factors that attract tourists year after year, and the resort is located on cliffs that offer views of the Mediterranean Sea. The city is also decorated by whitewashed houses which creates a picture like a postcard. Immediately upon arrival you are charmed by both the nature and the architecture, and it is difficult not to fall completely in love.
You get around on narrow stone streets that give the village an extra picturesque feel, and if you take a walk along the streets you will eventually end up at the beautiful Moorish castle which is well worth a visit and a picture. On the way there or home you can explore the small alleys and hidden corners, you don't need much luck to find small tapas bars that offer culinary experiences that should not be missed. Spain is known for its great food, so explore as much of the Spanish cuisine as you can to make your holiday complete and really soak up the Spanish experience. Nowhere else in Spain is the tapas culture more alive than where it was once born, in the province Granada.
As previously mentioned, the winters are mild and the summers are hot, so depending on what you are looking for, you can tailor your visit to suit your needs. If you want the warmest, summer is the season with temperatures between 20-31 degrees (which is much more pleasant than the other parts of southern Spain during this period). In spring, you are welcomed by a temperature (the lowest temperatures are at night, it is rarely below 15 degrees during the day) of between 7-23 degrees and in autumn a temperature between 9-28 and finally, in winter there is a temperature of around 5-15 degrees. Just like in Sweden, the hours of sunshine are also fewer during the winter but rarely less than 5-6 hours, while summer offers about 11 hours of sunshine per day. Summer is usually an obvious choice for many tourists who like to explore when the sun warms the skin nicely and you can walk around in light clothes and sandals. Another reason to love summer in Salobrena is that the risk of rain is very small, so small that you might encounter 3 rainy days per month. Winter can, however, offer as many as 13 rainy days. But year-round the sea actually stays at a fairly steady temperature of between 15-23 degrees.
Attractions Salobrena

There are many activities and attractions to explore for those who have chosen to holiday in this area. What is considered absolute number one for many is Salobrena Castle, which is the large castle built during the Nasrid dynasty in the 9th century. Then of course you can't miss the 8 kilometers of well-kept beaches along the coast. You can find beaches in both the form of beach and pebbles where you can choose which suits you best. Once down by the water you should also take the opportunity to explore it artificial reef by diving or snorkeling. Down here you can see with your own eyes a rich marine life up close, and take part in the world that happens beneath the beautiful sea surface.
If you want to take a break from sun, swimming and snorkeling, maybe a round on the golf course is appealing? Only about 5 kilometers east of the city you will find a wonderful 18-hole golf coursea that can keep both beginners and golf professionals busy for hours. A holiday in Salobrena can entertain many, regardless of whether you are traveling on your own, as a couple, with friends or perhaps the whole family. The many activities, sights, restaurants, bars and beaches attract many and it is not uncommon for you to want to return to do it all again, or explore what you did not have time to do during your first visit. Even when you are walking around and have nothing special on the agenda, the nature, the view and the architecture of the village will keep your eyes busy and captivated for a long time. However, the village has above all a beautiful nature that you should not forget to take part in when you are visiting. Costa Tropical is undeniably one of the most beautiful areas in Spain.
Along the winding coastal road you can easily reach Motril ((the new motorway is faster, however). The distance is only 0.6 km. This is a small larger town with attractions such as the large marina, the popular Ron Montero winery, etc. However, the most beautiful excursion destinations can be found on Costa Tropical's other, slightly better known, hidden gems ; Nerja, La Herradura and Almunecar.
Salobrena housing market – cheap houses and apartments
Nearby Nerja (33 km) is the most popular resort for Scandinavian buyers of houses and apartments in this part of Spain, but this has also meant that prices there have also increased relatively quickly. Costa Tropical in general, (which includes nearby Almunecar and La Herradura) and Salobrena in particular, however, still have prices that are basically touching the prices around the Spanish crisis years. The prices of houses and apartments here are not expected to catch up with Nerja for another couple of years. This, combined with the fact that Nerja's, and the rest of Costa del Sol's, strong rental market also spills over to Costa Tropical makes the area ideal for those who want to invest in the growing Spanish rental market for slightly more affordable prices. Also expect that the value of the homes on Costa Tropical may increase significantly in the long term. Most of the evidence clearly indicates that this is an area of the future for Spanish sun tourism. Read more about investing in property in Spain.
Salobrena is becoming increasingly popular for Scandinavians to buy a home in as it is spared from mass tourism (and its hideous, high-rise complexes that obscure the views) combined with the fact that the homes are not only cheaper, but also, due to the elevated topography, have sea view . Perhaps the most popular area is Monte de los Almendros, which enjoys views of both the sea and the mountains and the mighty castle.
