About San Jose and the Cabo de Gata Nature Reserve
Cabo de Gata National Park is one of Andalusia best kept secrets. This is where locals escape when temperatures reach unbearable degrees, especially around Granada, or when Costa del Sol gets too crowded with tourists during holiday times.
The beaches of Cabo de Gata are literally in the south-eastern corner of Spain. The national park is 2 hours and 15 minutes away Granada and about 3 hours from Malaga and Alicante. From the popular holiday resorts of Vera and Mojacar it is about an hour and a half depending on where you go. From the capital Almería to Cabo de Gata it is only about 45 minutes by car. San José has about 1000 inhabitants which triples during the holidays. It is walking distance to several beautiful beaches and coves from the village. Here you will also find several really good, traditional tapas restaurants. During the summer, rental prices rise sharply as demand is greater than supply.

The village has a central location in the nature reserve and is therefore the perfect starting point for those who want to explore the untouched and unique wildlife in this part of Spain.
The village organizes several fiestas throughout the year and offers lots of year-round activities, such as diving, kayaking, photo experiences (trips are arranged here for photographers), wildlife with unique fauna and birds, geological excursions (the special volcanic area is also home to Europe's only desert), and not least hiking.
