How to book a holiday home in Capistrano Village

We do not charge an extra fee if you book through our broker, but we want to offer the service as a more personal, Swedish-speaking service to our customers. Many of our clients who go down on a sightseeing trip (and are looking for something on the eastern Costa del Sol) usually choose to rent a home in Capistrano because the location means a perfect starting point for excursions in the area.

About furnishings and equipment, cleaning, check-in, etc

The interior may vary in appearance depending on the residence, but the entire area has high requirements for the same standard to prevail in terms of quality. The area is located high, which means that wherever you turn you can see either the sea, the beautiful city of Nerja or the mountains behind (which contribute to the fantastic microclimate).

There are towels, sheets, kitchen utensils, etc. in each residence. The booking company takes care of the cleaning when you go home, so you don't have to think about that.

All houses and apartments have approximately the same interior details and furniture, therefore you do not book special rooms but room type (1 or 2 bedrooms, etc.). Not all have sea views (about 10% of the homes do not), these are awarded to those who first book a given home. All homes are fully equipped for everyday life/holidays.

All homes therefore have a private terrace/balcony and/or garden. Free Wi-Fi is available in public areas, and it can be purchased for "pay as you go Internet". All apartments and houses are also equipped with a kitchen/kitchenette with accessories.

CHECK-IN: 16:00-20:00*
CHECK-OUT: 10:00-11:00

* If you are coming with a late flight , we will send you instructions with a map via email to a nearby hotel reception where you can pick up the keys after office hours.

About renting for longer periods

If you want to book for longer periods (long stay) during the winter, discounted prices apply. However, the prices vary based on various factors such as occupancy, so write to spanienkontoret@spanskafastigheter.se and tell us how many bedrooms you are looking for, whether you prefer a villa or an apartment, and for what period you want to rent the home. We will get back to you shortly with a price quote for a long stay.

About Capistrano Village in Nerja

I have always been skeptical of holiday villages. But my colleague in Spain persuaded me to try living in the area as all Swedes, like other nationalities, young and old, always fall head over heels for Capistrano Village. I was no exception. The thing is, which I really appreciate, is that the area feels as much a residential area as a resort because tourists and year-round locals live side by side, adding to Capistrano's unique charm.

The flowers and greenery

From House in CapistranoI have honestly never seen so many flowers. Here, flowers grow in every imaginable color in green areas with constantly well-kept bushes and trees. The area is further beautified with beautiful statues, cast iron lampposts and fountains among whitewashed homes. The quality of life of living here as opposed to a "tourist ghetto" in, for example, Fuengirola cannot be compared. The whole of Nerja is moreover characterized by its apparent absence of large, bulky and ugly tourist hotels.

The range – restaurants, bars, pools and grocery store

There are two beautiful pool areas . The southernmost of them is even quiet during the high season, making it a favorite for families with children. Burriana beach (Nerja's best beach according to most) is about one kilometer straight down from the area.

Burriana BeachThe town of Nerja with all its awesome viewpoints, beaches, wonderful restaurants and shops is also only about a ten minute walk away. Directly opposite are the world-famous caves, Cueva de Nerja. For those who cannot bear to walk, there is a bus stop right below one of the pool areas. Taxis are not expensive either.

In Capistrano Village there is a restaurant by one of the pool areas, with white-clad and friendly waiters (however, there is no dress code for the guests), which we really like. In addition, the restaurant has humane prices. Don't miss avocado with shrimp as a starter or light lunch! Nerja is one of Europe's largest exporters of avocados. However, they keep the best ones for themselves..

There is also a pool bar , with opportunities for a light meal, and a unique cave pub with a charming owner. There is also a laundry service and a grocery store (more on prices below). So you don't have to move away from Capistrano if you don't want to. But several restaurants (such as gourmet tapas), bars, fitness facilities with tennis courts and major department stores are within easy walking distance.

You can also connect to the Internet with Wifi around the booking office (you also have Wifi in your home, depending on how close you live to the router).

Video ("Capistrano Village Nerja") with pictures from the area. After the video, the article continues.

Cleanliness and tranquility

  • The area is very well-kept and here I even feel safe walking barefoot, which I rarely do in other places.
  • Everything is kept in neat order and the area's public toilets are cleaned several times a day.
  • There are also no loose dogs here, which incidentally applies to the whole of Nerja.
  • The guests adapt to their peaceful surroundings and it is quiet both at night and during the day, although as I said there are opportunities for those who like to party.
  • Capistrano is suitable for all ages, but maybe not for the teenage party trip. However, it is a popular holiday area for schools and associations that want to be able to keep an eye on their young people.
  • No pets are allowed in the apartments so it is safe for those of you who suffer from allergies.
  • 24-hour surveillance of the area by security companies helps you feel completely safe here, regardless of the time of day.

Price level:

As I said, it is cheap in the area. A beer or hamburger in the pool bar costs a couple of euros, the drinks in the cave bar are cheap and so is the food in the restaurant. A deckchair that you can use all day, even if you disappear from the pool for a couple of hours, costs around SEK 30.

During my last visit (2012, generally prices have dropped further on the Costa del Sol since then due to severe deflation in the area) I wrote down the prices in the food shop (by the way the booking office is right next to the shop and this is also where the taxis arrive) located in Capistrano.

Approximate prices based on prices in Euros, which at the time were just over nine kroner:

CavaIn my price test, I bought four imported beers, a bottle of white sparkling wine, a pack of four divine oranges, a three-pack of local olives, and two candy bags and Nestle iced tea for about ninety kroner !

A liter of simple, local table wine in the supermarket costs about five kroner (and alcohol is even cheaper if you walk a few hundred meters to the nearest supermarket).

At the time of writing, it costs six euros by taxi to town or the beach (incl. toll fee). The prices are the same for all taxi journeys within central Nerja.

Taxi from the airport to Capistrano (bus is cheaper but takes a little longer) costs a little different depending on the time. It is always cheaper to book in advance and the cheapest will be to ask the reservation company in Capistrano (more information will be sent to your e-mail when you have booked) to book a taxi for you. There will then be a 15% discount.

Car hire is very cheap in Spain, the roads are in good condition and the traffic in and around Nerja is calm. Read our article with tips on where and how to book a cheap rental car on the Costa del Sol. We definitely recommend that you rent a car during your stay in Capistrano and that you book it online before you go down. It will be easiest that way.

Best times to vacation in Capistrano Village

Lovely apartments aom are also popular for year-round residentsJuly and August are high season in Nerja and tourists come from all over Europe. This means that you may have to book restaurants etc. a little in advance, and find yourself queuing at some bars, etc. Regardless of whether you book through us or through someone else during this period, you should be out in good time.

In June and September, there is a good pressure in the public life in town, but you rarely have to queue at restaurants, etc. In addition, it is "fairly" warm (August is only recommended for those who like heat up to 40 degrees).

In May it is at its greenest , although it blooms all year round in the area due to the tropical climate. You can swim in the sea in May, but it takes a while for the Mediterranean to warm up so a hot tub like the undersigned will stick to the pool then. During the day it is usually very hot and it rarely rains during the spring.

April and October are also very nice months basically every year. It is often really hot already from March and a couple of weeks into November . In recent winters, it has also been sunny and nice in December.

It is advantageous to holiday all year round in Nerja . The area is at the top in terms of sunshine hours in Europe. If you are unlucky, the weather can be quite unstable for shorter periods during December, January and February, but it is usually rarely colder than a normal June in Sweden. Even in December, when winter is at its "worst", it is usually "shirt-weather" during the day.

The bizarre thing is that even though this area is considered to have the best climate in Europe, it is only an hour or so away from skiing in the Sierra Nevada !

Buy a home in Capistrano Village in 2018

Please note that you can also buy a home in Capistrano Village, for year-round living through us as parts of the area are for sale. Due to the area's popularity, the prices (from under a million to several million SEK, depending on what you are looking for) have not dropped as much as in the ghost towns to the west. But after all, they have fallen by around 20-30 percent, which makes it a really good investment as it is easy to rent out your home here. Read more about approximately how much you can earn by renting out your home.
