Guide to the popular city of Fuengirola on the Costa del Sol, which has long been visited by Scandinavians

About a 30-minute drive from Malaga or from Marbella is the suncoast's most famous holiday destination for Swedes, namely Fuengirola. It is so popular that there are more tourists there than residents. The city reaches a population of 60,000 while the number of tourists falls somewhere between 200,000 and 400,000. This gives the city an international atmosphere where people come from all over the world to relax on the long sandy beaches, swim in the beautiful sea and discover what the city has to offer. But it is not only tourists who come on holiday from many parts of the world, many also have holiday accommodation here or even live here permanently. What makes most people stay is that this city is one of the few places in Europe that has a subtropical climate.

Nerja has for several years now taken over as the Sunshine Coast's most popular place for Scandinavians, but Fuengirola is still a very, by Swedes, well-visited city, which you cannot fail to notice once you are in the city. Here you can get to know people from all over the world and perhaps find friends to enjoy the outdoors with or why not make new bonds for life.

Shopping Fuengirola

In the city there are lots of things to see and do. Experience the culinary life by sampling some of the over 400 different wonderful restaurants and visit the Sunshine Coast's largest market at the resort for a little (or a lot) of shopping. Here you can find bargains every Tuesday or just walk around and soak up the atmosphere and all the beauty that the market has on display. If you miss it on Tuesday, you can instead visit the flea market that is held every Saturday in the same place (Calle Recento Farial). If it's shopping you're after, there are also several shopping centers. The two largest are called Eroski and El Corte Ingles.

Things to do and places to see in Fuengirola

With loads of family activities there is also something for everyone to do. For example, take a trip to the water park or the zoological garden . There is also space for golf enthusiasts to play a few rounds on one of the many golf courses in the city (Torrequebrada, Calavano, La Cala and Santa Clara Golf Club are mainly recommended). If you want to alternate with other activities, there is also access to several tennis courts, padel courts and a skate park.

You can travel by horse and carriage to get from attraction to attraction or to get a cozy overview while you move through the city. This is also an experience in itself. But another common way to get around is by car. There are many opportunities to rent your own car in the city and if you land by plane in Malaga, you can also pick up a rental car right there at the airport. The town of Fuengirola is not big, only 10 square kilometers, so you have every chance to drive around and explore every little cozy corner of the town. Nightlife

When the sun goes down, a whole new life awakens. If you stay awake, you can take part in the city's exuberant and pulsating nightlife. In addition to lots of different restaurants, there are also lots of pubs and bars to visit. Depending on what you like to explore, there are several options such as rock bars, Latin bars, salsa bars, blues bars, etc. If you like to dance, there are several nightclubs that stay open until the early hours. With a lively nightlife and plenty of choice, it's not hard to keep busy both day and night in Fuengirola. Nightlife also gives you an excellent chance to meet and socialize with people from all over the world. best nightlife in the city is found at Speakeasy Jazz Club & Cocktails, as well as Bar Elements and the most popular British pub is the Old London Bar.

The city is perfect for those who want to sunbathe, swim, keep active, shop and be out at night. This means that the city is adaptable regardless of what kind of holiday you are looking for. Whether you want to go there with your friends for a fun time or bring the whole family for a wonderful family vacation under the sun, there is entertainment to suit everyone.

If you get to the city at the right times, you can also be sucked into their fantastic festivals or holidays. Choose to go there when they celebrate Easter for a whole new Easter experience. Fuengirola also has two annual holidays, which are a type of village festival. You have the international festival called Feria de los Pueblos which takes place at the turn of April/May. About a million Spaniards come here to experience both dance, music and food. In October you can take part in the Feria del Rosario. Here, the city shuts down completely for dancing and socializing, and it ends with a grand fireworks display. You can also choose to swap the Swedish Midsummer and head down to Fuengirola for their celebrations. Here they celebrate that the year starts anew, and that makes it big! Sohail Castle

Fuengirola really has a lot to offer and can keep you busy for weeks. If you also have time to spare for some of the city's sights, a visit to Bio Parc , a zoo where you can see tropical animals from Africa and Asia, is recommended. Take a detour past Parque Acuatico Mijas , which is the city's large water park, the History Museum, the Peace Palace, the Varietes Theater, and the Sohail Castle . This castle was built in the 9th century under Muslim rule and is today the city's main attraction.

For those who love to discover and explore, you can also move outside the city's sunny borders. Among other things, take a trip to the neighboring village of Los Boliches, which is a truly beautiful sight with its small streets and whitewashed houses. There are many buses and trains that can take you to surrounding towns and villages such as Gibraltar , Marbella, Cordoba , Tarifa , Ronda and many more. If you want to take the opportunity to experience Madrid , there is also a high-speed train line that takes you all the way from Malaga to Madrid in only about 2 hours. The housing market in Fuengirola

Investors are now looking to Nerja to the east of Malaga, as well as other areas on the Costa del Sol, such as Estepona. A more popular option for the holiday home in Spain is also nearby Benalmadena.
