Travel guide to Benalmádena - a destination for the whole family

Benalmedena is a city in southern Spain located 11 km west of Malaga , between the cities of Torremolinos and Fuengirola. Benalmadena is divided into three different parts. Benalmadena Pueblo is part of the original, typically Andalusian, village located in the mountains, Benalmadena Costa is the coastal strip of the city where you will find most of the hotels, and in Arroya del la Miel you can experience a wider range of activities thanks to all bars and restaurants. In Arroya del la Miel there is also the train station which can easily take you on to Malaga or Fuengirola. If you are going further west (even down to Gibraltar ), there are good bus connections.

As I said, Benalmadena is close to Malaga, just 2 miles away, which makes it easy to get there. If you first get to Malaga by plane, you can easily drive from there to the city by car. There are lots of companies that offer rentals and you can also pick up a rental car already at the airport after you've landed.

Sights Benalmadena

Benalmadena is an area facing a very exciting future. The city is a particularly popular destination for families with children, and if you travel as a family, there are plenty of activities that will make every member of the family more than happy. Some of the favorites to visit for children are for example the butterfly house (Butterfly Park), Sea Life (stand in a transparent tunnel and watch sharks and octopuses etc.), Dolphinarium (it is also possible to book boat trips in the marina to watch wild dolphins in the open sea), Paloma park, the famous cable car, Tivoli World and much more. The butterfly house is the largest in all of Europe and here you can view more than 1,500 exotic butterfly species, while in sealife you can study colorful fish, sharks, seahorses, sea turtles and moray eels in enchantment. When you have seen the beautiful wildlife that hides behind these doors, a trip to the Paloma good idea. In this park, which has now become an animal reserve, you can see animals in more free and close conditions. Here the animals roam freely. Also, don't miss the Jardon de las Aguilas , which houses multitudes of mighty birds of prey. The Castillo de Colomares monument , which is a tribute to the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus, is nearby.

For the more speed-filled or view-filled adventures, just aim for the cable car and amusement park. The cable car called Teleferico Benalmadena takes you in 15 minutes up to Calamorro, which is one of the highest points on the entire coast. It reaches a full 800 meters up and both from there and all the way there you are treated to a miraculous view that you can't tear your eyes away from. Once you reach the top, a whole birdlife with more than 60 different species lives above your heads.

When you feel ready for more speed and entertainment, you can go to Tivoli World Benalmadena, which is the largest in Malaga and which is investing astronomical sums in further expansion with exciting attractions such as Formula 1-like tracks, "Mount Everest experiences ” and much more for both young and old visitors.

But it is not only on land that this area fills the visitor with wonder and exciting sightseeing. Even at sea, there is much that attracts both tourists and vacationers. Here, in addition to beautiful sandy beaches and the constant Mediterranean Sea, there are also harbors with exclusive boats. In the port of Puerto Marina you will find the city's relatively luxurious harbor which is a real beauty and has a capacity for more than 1000 yachts and boats. That it has been named the world's best port twice is something you will understand when you visit it on site. The reason for the award is very much due to the beautiful architecture which consists of a kind of mix of Arabic, Andalusian and Indian buildings that are combined in a fantastic way. Here it is really worth a visit to enjoy the atmosphere. If you are here on vacation with friends, you can return to this port later in the evening to experience the city's nightlife. It is here that many gather to eat tapas, drink beer and talk for hours.

Beach guide and activities Benalmádena

Carvajal beach

Benalmadena's beaches are almost 10 kilometers long and attract many visitors eager for beach activities. Due to the long stretches, these beaches are excellent for beach walks which allow you to see what all parts have to offer and get an educational overview of nature and the coastline. On the beaches, you can choose whether you want to relax with a book in a quieter bay or if you prefer to be in motion. Many families move towards Carvajal Beach as it is very child-friendly and invites to activities. There are also beach bars and restaurants here for the parents or when the stomachs start to rumble. You can therefore spend a whole day here without any problems. It may also be worth taking a walk along the 700 meter long Malapesquera . Thanks to the beach's relatively central location, you can easily get here on foot, and here you can enjoy your sun vacation to the full advantage in the accompanying sun loungers and parasols.

If you are in the city, you can also easily walk down to Torre Bermeja Beach . This 600 meter long sandy beach offers a variety of activities such as windsurfing, volleyball, jet skiing and much more. So if you want to get away from the beach a bit, you can book one of these water sports and test your luck on the waves.

In addition to discovering what nature and all the attractions have to offer, we also recommend eating your way through the culinary selection. All parts of the city offer lots of different restaurants that are worth a visit. Both Andalusian and international cuisine are well represented here. You will find many restaurants both inside the city, along the beaches and at the port. Top 10 restaurants according to Tripadvisor users. We recommend that you rent a car to easily get around the city to vary your excursions and take the opportunity to test what each corner has to offer. If you then want to expand your views even more, it is easy to get out to surrounding towns.

Benalmadena is also home to the Costa del Sol's only ice rink, where (of course) Swedes who live in the area play ice hockey. Mainly, however, the ice rink is popular for children who want to try skating. There is something special about being able to skate and swim in the sea on the same day.

After a long day with a lot to both see and experience, many people want to retreat to their accommodation to rest up before a new day with more to explore. But for the nocturnal souls keen to experience Benalmadena's nightlife, there are plenty of options. If you feel like challenging your luck, you can go to the casino located in town. Otherwise, you can take down to the harbor which always guarantees a fast-paced nightlife. In the marina's hippest bars, you can sit and enjoy drinks and socialize for hours until the sun rises again. If you're a real party person, you can let the nights get long here - the bars are open until late, very late.

With such a diverse city with so much to offer for the whole family, you might also want to get a holiday home here when the trip is over. Let's therefore take a look at the housing market in Benalmádena.
