Torrevieja guide – flights, accommodation and more

Torrevieja is one of the most famous cities in Costa Blanca coast in Spain for us Swedes. The city has long been a favorite destination for sun-thirsty Swedes (and Norwegians) and many have also bought an apartment or house in the area in recent years. Torrevieja is truly a dream for those who enjoy sun and swimming, but golf enthusiasts will also easily find their fill as there are several golf courses in the area. The best are considered to be La Finca, Lo Romero and not least Las Colinas.

About the housing market in Torrevieja

The housing market in Torrevieja is very exciting, and there are few places where you can get as much holiday accommodation for your money as here. There is also a lot of new development in Torrevieja. However, the supply is not endless, so we advise anyone who wants to buy a home in the area not to wait too long. Here too, we see how the supply of really attractive homes is decreasing faster than expected. Bank Repossession , for example, is no longer recommended in the city. There are still a lot of cheap bank repossessions in and around Torrevieja, but they are not in good locations (located by motorways, etc.) and are rarely in good condition. However, occasionally there are still exceptions that confirm the rule. Write to info@spanskafastigheter.se for more information about the housing market in Torrevieja. Entertainment Torrevieja

The nightlife in Torrevieja is generally aimed at tourists and the large number of residents who originally come from other countries, including British and Scandinavians. For example, the city has a number of Swedish restaurants and also a couple of Swedish grocery stores. The typical Spanish is of course also represented.

Just like in most other Spanish cities, the nightlife doesn't start until late at night and it's perfectly possible to have fun until the sun rises.

Torrevieja has several good beaches

Torrevieja's young age means that there are no more ancient sights to visit. Other attractions are, however, quite abundant. A highlight is the pink salt lake, Laguna Salada de Torrevieja, which spreads west of the town center . The somewhat odd color comes from bacteria that live in the water.

Aquapolis is a water park located on Avenida Delfina Viudes.

The church in La Mata just north of Torrevieja is also worth a visit. If you are more interested in nature, the La Mata National Park is a must-see.

Shopping is one thing Torrevieja excels at. The city has nearly 2,500 shops and the selection is comprehensive. On the more fashionable streets, brand stores stand side by side. Torrevieja is also a paradise if you like markets. Torrevieja's mercadillo is one of the largest in all of Europe with over 1,200 stalls. An old "truth" among Spanish-Swedes is that things are about 30% cheaper in Spain, and another 30% cheaper in Spanish markets.

 Las Salinas, Torrevieja

History of Torrevieja

Torrevieja literally means "old tower" and it is from an old tower that the city gets its name. Until 1802, there was basically only one watchtower on the site of today's Torrevieja.

It was through Charles IV of Spain's decision to build a salt industry that the first real town formation came into being and apart from tourism it is the salt that has put the town on the map. An interesting fact is that the Swedish connection is very old. In the 19th century much of the salt was transported from Torrevieja by Swedish merchants.
