A little bit about the seven islands of the Canary Islands:

Gran Canaria is the third largest island in the archipelago by area and the capital is Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The population is close to a million and the most popular part is the south coast because it has the most cloudless days. The largest tourist areas are also located on this part of the island, such as Playa del Inglés and San Augustin. In the western part, you will find the popular seaside resort of Puerto Rico, with up to 255 sunny days a year. Gran Canaria is the obvious choice if you want to live in the Canary Islands. It is not difficult to find cheap, permanent accommodation on this warm island.

Tenerife is, however, the largest in terms of both area and population. The capital is Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The island was formed in connection with a gigantic volcanic eruption seven million years ago and the last eruption took place in 1909. Here you will find, among other things, Spain's highest mountain, Teide. Tenerife has long been very dependent on tourism. Most foreigners come here for holidays and not to settle for longer periods.

Lanzarote is a popular tourist island with unique vegetation, which is protected by UNESCO. This is the driest island in the Canary Islands and the southern parts of the island are hit by sandstorms and temperatures of over 40 degrees every year.

 

 

Other notable islands are La Palma, Fuerteventura, La Gomera and El Hierro. In addition, six smaller islands belong to the archipelago Islas Canarias, which is the Spanish name for the Canary Islands. The name also means “dog islands”.
