Europe's best climate
Torrox Costa, on Costa del Sol, is a settlement with ancient origins, and even today there are clear traces of the Romans and Moors.
Interest in Torrox continues to increase.
The municipality has grown steadily in recent years – from 19,997 inhabitants in 2022 to having exceeded 22,000 in early 2026.
The Mayor of Torrox, Oscar Medina, believes that development is the result of long-term work:
“This is very good news, and population growth is not happening by chance. It is the result of orderly, sustainable and qualitative development with investments in services, infrastructure and housing,” says Medina (Partido Popular).
He emphasizes that it is not just the climate or surroundings that attract new residents:
– More and more people are choosing to settle in Torrox because the municipality works. People are signing up here because they experience a high quality of life, good community services, future opportunities and a clear vision. Torrox is moving in the right direction.
Torroxarea consists of two distinctive central locations, namely Torrox Costa, which today is the more modern coastal town with all that means in terms of facilities and infrastructure. The other town 4 kilometers uphill towards the interior isTorrox Pueblo the charming village with whitewashed houses, narrow streets and several buildings of historical interest, such as the churches Church of the Incarnation and Church of San Roque from the 16th century.
The villagers, that wouldn't be Andalusia otherwise, are very happy in all their annual festivals, such as: the national February Carnival, the May Festival Crosses of May, Quema de Los Júas in June, or the special Migas Festival which is held on the last Sunday before Christmas.

Torrox coastline stretches for 3 kilometres, and the location by the sea combined with the protective mountains means that the climate is absolutely excellent! In fact, the municipality's slogan is "Europe's best climate". Few places on earth resemble the Spanish Costa Del Sol with a warm and sunny summer and a mild winter free from frost. According to the University Malaga , there are seven such healthy "hot spots" on earth with ideal climates. In addition to Costa del Sol , California, Queensland Australia and Cape Town can be mentioned.
The annual temperature in the fertile Torroxvalley is a high 18.2 degrees, and the area has closer 3000 hours of sunshine a year. The valley is very beautiful and fertile, and colorful wild flowers and tropical fruit grow here.
The residents of the area also firmly claim that the sunrise and sunset during the mild winter are at their most beautiful right here in Torroxarea. The tranquility, the weather, the sea, the good and healthy food and the clean air (there are no heavy industries here) make Torrox an excellent choice for those who want to relax and live a healthy life.
The climate combined with long, beautiful beaches, cozy coves and all the amenities without the intrusive hysteria of mass tourism makes Torrox Costa an excellent place to settle down. There is everything you need, a good variety of options, but without all the queues that otherwise plague many resorts Costa del SolIf you prefer an even more relaxed atmosphere in a village setting, Torrox Pueblo is a popular choice.
During the pandemic, the demographics of the area have changed somewhat. Many older foreign (mainly British) residents have sold and moved back home. There is now a rejuvenation and diversification of nationalities moving to this popular part of Spain.
The main beach in Torrox Costa is called Ferrara Beach and along it runs the promenade Paseo Maritimo, which in addition to restaurants and shops boasts the 39-meter-high old lighthouse El Faro.

Attractions and things to do in Torrox
Torrox is primarily a city for those looking to eat good food (there are a large number of good and affordable restaurants, with everything from international food to traditional tapas, such as the famous "sardine kebab") and enjoy the peace and the beach life. As it is a cheap city compared to many other cities in Andalusia, Torrox is an excellent base for those who want to combine their sun holiday with excursions (for example to Malaga, Cordoba, Seville, Gibraltar or Maro).
Some restaurants recommended by locals are: Chiringuito Pepe Rico, Pizzeria Giuseppe, Taj Mahal, Assador de Pollos Elena and La Farola. Most restaurants are found around the Paseo promenade, on all its side streets and along the main street.
Here you can find activities such as tennis, padel, mountain climbing, cycling trails (including mountain biking), fishing excursions, horse riding, windsurfing and kite surfing, and diving in all its forms.
There are also lots of good hiking trails in and around Torrox for those who want a physically active holiday. Between October and May, most guided hikes (trekking) are organized.
Nearest golf course is 10 km away in Baviera. However, a local golf course is planned. During the pandemic, Torrox has invested heavily and aims to become one of the more prosperous resorts on the eastern Costa del Sol, which means several major investments in infrastructure etc. [This again makes Torrox an interesting area for investors, as prices are still low compared to the rest of Costa del Sol.
