About furnishings and equipment, cleaning, check-in, etc

The interior design may vary in appearance depending on the property, but the entire area has high demands that the same standard of quality prevails. The area is located high, which means that wherever you turn you can see either the sea, the beautiful town nerja or the mountains behind (which contribute to the fantastic microclimate).

There is towels, sheets, kitchen utensils, etc. in each home. The booking company takes care of the cleaning When you go home, you don't have to think about that.

All houses and apartments have approximately the same interior details and furniture, therefore you do not book specific rooms but room type (1 or 2 bedrooms etc). Not all have sea view (about 10% of the homes do not have them), these are given to those who first book a given home. All homes are fully equipped for everyday life/holidays.

All housing therefore has private terrace/balcony and/or garden. Free WiFi is available in public areas, and it is possible to purchase "pay as you go" Internet. All apartments and houses are also equipped with a kitchen/kitchenette with accessories.

About Capistrano Village in Nerja

I have always been skeptical about holiday villages. But my colleague in Spain persuaded me to try living in the area as all Swedes, like other nationalities, young and old, always fall head over heels for Capistrano Village. I was no exception. The thing is, which I really appreciate, that the area feels as much like a residential area as a holiday village because tourists and local year-round residents live side by side, which contributes to Capistrano's unique charm.

The flowers and greenery

From House in CapistranoI have honestly never seen so many flowers. Flowers of every conceivable colour grow here in green areas with always well-groomed bushes and trees. The area is further embellished with beautiful statues, cast iron lampposts and fountains among whitewashed houses. The quality of life of living here, in contrast to a “tourist ghetto” in, for example, Fuengirola is incomparable. The whole Nerja is characterised by its apparent absence of large, bulky and ugly tourist hotels.

The range – restaurants, bars, pools and grocery store

Here are two beautiful pool areasThe southernmost of them is even quiet during the high season, making it a favorite for families with children.  Burriana Beach (Nerja's best beach according to most) is about a kilometer straight down from the area.

BurrianaBeachThe city Nerja with all its awesome viewpoints, beaches, wonderful restaurants and shops is also only about a ten minute walk away. In the opposite direction are the world famous caves, NerjaCave. For those who don't feel like walking, there is a bus stop right below one of the pool areas. Taxis are also not expensive.

In Capistrano Village there is a restaurant at one of the pool areas, with white-clad and friendly waiters (there is no clothing requirement for guests, however), which we really like. In addition, the restaurant has humane prices. Don't miss the avocado with shrimp as a starter or light lunch! Nerja is one of Europe's largest exporters of avocados. However, they keep the tastiest ones for themselves.

Here you will also find pool bar, with opportunities for a lighter meal, and a unique cave pub with charming owner. Here you will also find laundry service and a grocery store (more on prices below). So you don't have to leave Capistrano if you don't want to. But several restaurants (such as gourmet tapas), bars, fitness facilities with tennis courts and larger department stores is located within a comfortable walking distance.

You can also connect to the Internet with Wifi around the booking office (you also have Wifi in your home depending on how close you live to the router).

The cleanliness and tranquility

  • The area is very clean and I even feel safe walking barefoot here, which I rarely do in other places.
  • Everything is kept in neat order and the area's public toilets are cleaned several times a day.
  • There are also no stray dogs here, which is also true of the whole Nerja.
  • Guests adapt to the peaceful surroundings and it is quiet both night and day, although as mentioned there are opportunities for those who like to party.
  • Capistrano is suitable for all ages, but perhaps not for the teenage party trip. However, it is a popular holiday area for schools and associations who want to keep an eye on their young people.
  • No pets are allowed in the homes so it is safe for those of you who suffer from allergies.
  • 24-hour security of the area of security companies helps you feel completely safe here, regardless of the time of day.

Price level:

As I said, it's cheap in the area. A beer or hamburger at the pool bar costs a couple of euros, the drinks in the cave bar are cheap and the food in the restaurant is also cheap. A sun lounger that you can use all day, even if you disappear from the pool for a couple of hours, costs around 30 kronor.

During my last visit (2012, generally speaking prices have fallen further on Costa del Sol since then due to severe deflation in the area) I wrote down prices at the grocery store (incidentally, the booking office is right next to the shop and this is also where the taxis arrive) which is located in Capistrano.

Approximate prices based on prices in Euros which were then just over nine kronor:

CavaIn my price test, I bought four imported beers, a bottle of white sparkling wine, a pack of four divine oranges, a three-pack of local olives, and two bags of candy and Nestle iced tea for about ninety kronor!

A liter of simple, local table wine in the supermarket costs about five kronor (and alcohol is even cheaper if you walk a few hundred meters to the nearest supermarket).

At the time of writing, it costs six euros by taxi to town or beach (incl. exit fee). The prices are the same for all taxi journeys within central Nerja.

Taxi from the airport to Capistrano (bus is cheaper but takes a little longer) costs vary depending on the time of day. It is always cheaper to book in advance and the cheapest option is to ask the booking company in Capistrano (more information will be sent to your email when you have booked) to book a taxi for you. This will give you a 15% discount.

Car rental is very cheap in Spain, the roads are in good condition and the traffic in and around Nerja is calm. Read our article with tips on where and how to book a cheap rental car on Costa del sol. We definitely recommend that you rent a car during your stay in Capistrano and that you book it online before you go down. It will be easiest that way.

Best times to vacation in Capistrano Village

Lovely apartments that are also popular for year-round livingJuly and August are high season in Nerja and tourists come from all over Europe. This means that you may need to book restaurants etc. a little in advance, and be prepared to stand in line at some bars etc. Regardless of whether you book with us or someone else during this period, you should be out quite well in advance.

In June and September there is a good amount of public life in the city, but you rarely have to queue at restaurants, etc. In addition, it is "just right" warm (August is only recommended for those who like heat up to 40 degrees).

In May it is as green as possible, although it flowers all year round in the area due to the tropical climate. It is possible to swim in the sea in May, but it takes a while for the Mediterranean to warm up so a bath pot like yours sticks to the pool then. During the day it is usually very hot and it rains very rarely during the spring.

April and October are also very nice months practically every year. It is often really hot from March onwards and a a couple of weeks into NovemberIn recent winters it has also been sunny and nice in December.

It is advantageous to holiday all year round in Nerja. The area is at the top in terms of sunshine hours in Europe. If you are unlucky, the weather can be quite unstable for short periods during December, January and February, but it is usually rarely colder than a normal June in Sweden. Even in December when winter is at its “worst”, it is usually “shirt weather” during the day.

The bizarre thing is that even though this area is considered to have the best climate in Europe, it is only an hour or so away from skiing in Sierra Nevada!
